Make It Rain

Following my mural, I had hoped to follow up with a series of triumphant 6’ x 10’ paintings that would totally blow your mind. Alas, the last month has been a little more routine and I have not yet fully made the leap. I still need to convert our garden shed into a studio and for some reason, only a psychiatric professional could fully comprehend, I have been putting it off. Writing this may be the motivation I need to get off my ass do it!

So instead, this month I am giving you a short update, and then shamelessly trying to sell you stuff!

I can’t be too hard on my self however, as I have been consistently working, at a scale determined by my current set up and actually have had a couple of breakthroughs that I have been very happy with. Sometimes you just hit the mark with a piece and there’s something about it that people relate to. Remember those few days when it was so hot you barely had the energy to operate your limbs, and were laying in bed awake and sweating all night, with the thick air bearing down on you? Well, I couldn’t help but empathise with our long haired cat (Stevie) so I decided pay homage to his suffering by immortalising him in the painting below.

Once I had finished painting Stevie, the words just wrote themselves and I had a good feeling about it. But I didn’t expect it to be as popular as it was. My inbox was blowing up with enquiries from all walks of life from fellow hot weather sufferers, and seasoned cat lovers, to a very nice prostitute who felt the piece resonated with the backlash to WAP (had to look this up) and the lifestyle connection to her being a sex worker, which frankly I didn’t see coming, but I’ll take! The piece sold within hours and has been my most popular to date. A gallery called Splish in Copenhagen now has exclusive rights to sell as a limited edition print.

And perhaps even more significant for me, I made this piece. "You'll Find Me In The Club"

This is exactly the sort of thing I want to be doing only about 5 times larger! I feel it’s a successful representation of the expressive layering of paint and colour whilst balancing figurative and abstract elements that I am aiming for. I strongly feel this is a template to much larger work and am excited about upscaling this vibe.

Those who follow me on Instagram, @davidhorganart for those interested, will see I have been spending a lot of time on original work and this has not been represented on my website. So I have decided to create a section where you can purchase my originals! See below for some examples of what is now available.
